How to Install Book of Dragons 1.20.1
Forge only. AzureLib 3.1.3+ is required. Missing it is a crash.
The jar wants Forge 47+, Minecraft 1.20.1, and AzureLib 3.1.3 or newer. Install Forge 1.20.1, then AzureLib, then bookofdragons-1.31-1.20.1.jar. Missing AzureLib is a crash, not a missing texture.

How to Get the Book of Dragons
No 3x3. Trade a Hooligan Villager.
Profession name in lang is Hooligan Villager. Root advancement: "Obtain the legendary Book of Dragons from a Hooligan villager." Meet the Hooligans is a separate trade advancement. Dragon Hunter is "Purchase a Dragon Roost Map from a Hooligan." The 1.31 recipe folder has four JSON files. The book is not one of them.
Right-click the book. Index: Tamed Dragons, Dragon Species, Training Guide, Breeding Guide, Ability Reference. Early pages stay locked. Encounter unlocks habitat. Tame unlocks diet. Bond unlocks the rest. Shift-click a tamed dragon while holding the book to open its live page: health, hunger, affection, saddle, chest, location.
How to Craft the Viking Anvil
Iron block, iron ingot, three logs
Iron block on top, iron ingot in the middle, three logs across the bottom. Hooligans and the Viking smithy use this block. Craft it once and park it near your first roost.
How to Find a Dragon Roost
Buy the matching map. Weights are in roost_config.json.
If the map says no roost was found nearby, you bought the wrong biome map or you are standing in the wrong family. Buy the map that matches the dragon, then right-click in that biome. Cliff roosts search farther than cave, glade, wetland, or barrens.

Scales on the ground near a roost unlock Trail Tracker. Walking into the structure unlocks Roost Discoverer. Do not hunt Night Fury on a wetland map. The config will not roll it there.
How to Tame a Night Fury
Crouch and interact when the ready line appears. Do not mount first.
When a Night Fury is ready, chat says: "Night Fury is ready to be tamed! Crouch and interact with it to form a bond." Success: "You have successfully tamed Night Fury!" If you wait too long: "Night Fury grew impatient and broke its focus." Mounting first prints: "You must complete the taming ritual before you can ride this dragon!" The official strings use a name slot. In-game you see the species or the name you gave it, not %s.
Threads that say "just feed it steak" skip the ritual. Natural food is vanilla meat and fish plus rotten flesh. Favorite for Night Fury is salmon. Favorite affection is 20 on Night Fury, 15 on the other six. Special affection is 50. Too full and too hungry both block actions. Bond is required for specials and for breeding.
How to Ride and Use Breath Attacks
Hungry or young dragons refuse flight.
Keybinds live under Book of Dragons: Dragon Sprint, Free Camera, Open Dragon Inventory, Primary Ability (Breath), Secondary Ability. Hungry dragons refuse flight. Young dragons refuse flight. Camera roll and 3D flight are client config. Turn camera roll off if the horizon makes you sick.

Pages that print "Night Fury 140-180 HP" are inventing a bar. 1.31 stores CON, ATH, AGI, PRW, POT, VIG on a 0-100 range. CON drives health, armor, recovery, and hunger. This page lists CON and ATH. It does not invent hit points.

Which Dragon Should You Tame First?
Use spawn weight and movement mode. Not invented HP.
Night Fury is the rare roll on cliffs. Skrill is 70, Night Fury is 30. If you have a swamp, buy Wetland. Zippleback is the only wetland roll. If you have windswept hills, buy Cave and take whichever of Gronckle or Whispering Death landed. Gronckle is the calm first ride. It walks on the ground by default.

Whistle, Rattle-Staff, Scalemail
The only other 3x3s in the 1.31 jar
Whistle pattern is bone, bone, iron nugget on the diagonal. Bind with a right-click on a dragon you own. It only works outside in the Overworld. Staff pattern is IBS / BNS / BS. Shift-use binds. Click cycles follow / move / stand down. Hold sits or attacks. Scalemail is eight tagged scales around a slimeball. Tooltip: immune to fire and lava.
How to Get Dragon Eggs and Gronckle Iron
Eggs come from breeding. Wild kills do not drop them.
Dragon Breeder advancement: breed two dragons to obtain a dragon egg. If the pair is not bonded, chat says that dragon is not bonded enough for breeding. Cooldown and already-ready lines also live in the jar. Place the egg and wait. Hatching conditions print on the entity. Genetics files exist per species. Do not expect a wiki-colored Toothless every time.
Gronckle Iron is a real item. Feed the Gronckle gold ore and wait. There is no extra 3x3 for that iron in the recipe folder.
