How to Turn Any Skin into a Custom Totem of Undying

Create a personal Totem of Undying resource pack featuring your own Minecraft skin or avatar in 3 steps.

Holding a Totem of Undying that looks like your own player skin is one of the coolest flexes in Minecraft multiplayer. Creating one manually requires editing 3D texture maps in Image Editors, but you can automate it instantly!

How the Totem Texture Works

The Totem of Undying uses a 16x16 pixel texture mapped to a miniature 3D character shape. A custom pack replaces assets/minecraft/textures/item/totem_of_undying.png with a miniature version of your skin's head, arms, and torso.

Step-by-Step Custom Totem Creation

  1. Upload your Minecraft skin PNG or type your Java username.
  2. Our tool extrudes your 3D skin layer into a totem item texture.
  3. Download the .zip or .mcpack and place it in your resourcepacks folder!

Generate your custom totem pack in 5 seconds with our Custom Totem Generator!

Replace the Totem of Undying texture

  1. Start with a transparent PNG and keep the important part of the design inside the center of the canvas.
  2. Export it to the Totem of Undying texture path used by the selected edition and version.
  3. Add valid pack metadata and a unique pack icon so the pack is easy to identify.
  4. Install the pack, move it above conflicting packs and reload resources.
  5. Hold a totem in both hands and trigger it in a disposable test world to inspect the activation view.

Design for the animation, not only the inventory icon

The activation animation enlarges and moves the texture across the screen. Fine facial details that look good in an inventory slot can become noisy during activation. Use a clear silhouette, preserve transparency and test at the game's normal UI scale.

A Java resource pack and a Bedrock resource pack are different deliverables. Generate or install the package that matches the edition instead of renaming a ZIP to .mcpack.
