Build Minecraft map art from an image
This builder converts an uploaded image into a horizontal arrangement of real Minecraft blocks. It matches image pixels to map colors, shows the material totals, and exports a placement datapack for Java Edition. It does not edit or replace saved map data files.
Choose the final width and height in blocks before building. A standard map covers 128 by 128 blocks, so larger artwork is divided into map-sized tiles. The preview grid and materials-by-tile list help you plan construction and distribute supplies.
Color matching and dithering
Perceptual matching usually produces the closest visual result. Floyd-Steinberg dithering can create smoother gradients, while no dithering produces cleaner flat-color regions.
Flat and staircase modes
Flat mode keeps blocks at one height. Staircase mode changes elevation to access Minecraft map shading, so it needs more vertical space and careful orientation.
Support blocks and custom materials
Add support only beneath gravity blocks or beneath every map block. Advanced settings also let you assign a different block state to an existing map color when the replacement renders with that color in game.
How to create a buildable map art
- Upload an image, choose a fit mode, and set the finished width and height in blocks.
- Select flat or staircase construction, then compare dithering and color-matching options in the preview.
- Review total materials, stacks, build height, and the list for each 128 by 128 map tile.
- Download the build pack, back up the world, install the datapack, and run the generated placement function from the north-west corner of a clear area.
- Create a new map over the completed build and verify orientation before repeating the process in a survival world.
Minecraft map art builder FAQ
Does this create a map item file?
No. It creates a physical block blueprint and a Java placement datapack. Hold a new map over the finished build to render the artwork in game.
Why is the build taller in staircase mode?
Minecraft maps use height differences to create lighter and darker shades. Staircase mode uses those elevation changes, while flat mode stays on one Y level.
Can I build artwork larger than one map?
Yes. Use dimensions larger than 128 blocks and follow the map grid. The materials section separates totals by tile for multi-map walls.
Should I back up my world?
Yes. The exported function places many blocks at once. Test it in a copy of the world and confirm the origin, available space, and Minecraft version before using it in an important save.
